Dulux is continually developing new ways to reduce the environmental impact of its products and activities, with environmental sustainability forming a core element of Dulux's business. Dulux is committed to the ongoing research and development of innovative products that reduce the environmental impact of our products, without affecting their outstanding performance. This is evident in our proactive shift from solvent-based products to water-based alternatives, and the introduction of New Zealand's first low VOC paint in the early 1990's.
From initiating sustainable business partnerships, through to products and even the actual clean-up stage, we are continually developing new ways to reduce the environmental impact of our products, without affecting their outstanding performance and the quality results that New Zealand's professional and DIY painters have come to expect from Dulux.

Environmental Sustainability
Dulux's development of environmentally responsible water-based paints as a replacement for many solvent-based paints has been underway since the 1960's.
Dulux is now the largest manufacturer of water-based paints in New Zealand and Australia. The benefit to the environment is obvious. When solvent-based paint dries, solvent evaporates into the atmosphere. Water-based paint emits mainly water vapor into the air. Dulux has been at the forefront in introducing low VOC paints. Low VOC paints are lower in Volatile Organic Compounds thereby creating fewer emissions and less odour.
Dulux has introduced low VOC products such as Dulux Professional®, envirO₂™, Wash&Wear® and the tinter system used to deliver the Dulux colour offer. The company is committed to further develop its low VOC ranges.

Caring for our community
Do you have leftover paint or packaging?
We are proud to offer our Paint Take-Back scheme, whereby purchasers can return their unwanted paint containers and packaging to be consciously recycled and reused. Simply return your left over paint and paint packaging to any of our Dulux Trade Centre and selected Guthrie Bowron stores nationwide and we will recycle, reuse or dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.
Waste Management
Correct waste disposal is an essential and important part of safe and sustainable working practice. Every endeavour is made to minimise the quality and quantity of waste generation, and hence reduce the associated problem of waste disposal.
