Our new award! This category recognises the best interior and/or exterior paint finishes of any temporary, installation, exhibition, and brand promotion experience.
The National Gallery of Victoria's 2023 Melbourne Now exhibition celebrated Melbourne’s contemporary art, design and architecture. Community Hall was an informal, flexible and celebratory space designed to host events such as performance art, film, talks, and interactive workshops.
“The Community Hall at the NGV’s 2023 Melbourne Now exhibition is a fitting inaugural winning project of this new category, which celebrates and acknowledges the creative significance of temporary projects.
"Its brazen saturation of playful colours demonstrated the unique opportunities presented by non-permanent designs. Specifically, it offered a vibrant backdrop for a series of events within the Melbourne Now exhibition. As such, it was conceived as a theatrical space, with a curved wall of seating set forward of the existing walls breaking down the rectilinear nature of the room to create an intimate set-like effect.
"This sweeping structure was swathed in the dense yellow of Dulux Harvest Gold and offset by the fairy floss pink of the walls behind. It is no surprise to learn that the architects intentionally drew upon carnival colours, highlighted by orange LEDs, to dial up the drama and the coalescence of these elements is mesmerising and effervescent."
