Dry Time
In cooler conditions, standard paint will dry much slower than in warm conditions. This leads to greater risk of the paint being damaged as it dries, and delays re-coat applicaton. Dulux Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock has faster drying and re-coat times in cooler conditions, delivering Weathershield performance in lower temperatures.
Curing
Standard paint can have difficulty curing at low temperatures, which degrades the durability of the paint film. Weathershield +Plus Winterlock uses a ColdCure™ Formula so paint still cures in temperatures down to 2°C.
Durability
Backed by The Dulux Promise*, Weathershield +Plus Winterlock provides long life protection against NZ weather conditions.
Viscosity
Paint viscosity varies with temperature. The viscosity of Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock has been optimised for use in the 2–10°C temperature range, giving excellent flow, smoothness and coverage.
An application and dry time optimiser for use during cold weather
For use in existing Dulux Premium Exterior and prep paints
Helps paints cure at temperatures as low as 3°C
Use with:
Dulux Premium Exterior – Weathershield (all bases and colours), Weathershield ColourGuard™, and Timbacryl® (all bases and colours)
Dulux Prep – 1Step® Prep (water based), Dulux Professional Total Prep
Not compatible with:
Dulux Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock, Dulux Professional FastFinish Enamels, Dulux Weathershield +PLUS Superhide and Dulux Roof & Trim™
No, Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock is self-priming on most substrates - dressed and rough sawn timber, fibre cement, masonry and (cured) concrete. Apply 2 generous coats. Apply 3 coats on all unpainted surfaces. Standard preparation is required.
No, during the re-coat and curing time of Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock the paint must remain dry - any rain or dew could damage the soft paint film.
If the temperature is warmer than 15°C, Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock can dry too quickly and the viscosity will be lower, making it difficult to work with. We recommend standard Weathershield in these conditions.
These products are compatible in colour range (Vivid White Base) and sheen level. Standard Weathershield and Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock may be used on the same project. We recommend boxing the areas in which each product is used (i.e. at an architectural break in the substrate).
If the air and substrate temperatures are below 10°C, Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock should be used. Substrate and air temperatures must be over 2°C throughout application and drying. If the temperature will remain above 10°C, standard Weathershield should be used.
Weathershield +PLUS Winterlock is specially formulated for use between 2-10°C, but it can still be used in temperatures up to 15°C^.
