Previously painted galvanised steel:
• Occasionally an apparently sound old paint will lose adhesion when recoated, particularly if the new paint is darker in colour.
• To avoid this, check the adhesion of the old paint by cutting an 'X' through a clean area of the film with a sharp knife, press cellulose tape firmly across the cut and rip it off. If the old paint comes off with the tape it should be removed before repainting.
• Remove dust, grease, and any loose or flaking paint by scrubbing with a solution of Dulux House Wash using a stiff bristle brush (not a wire brush). Rinse with water and allow to dry.
• Apply one coat of Dulux All Metal Primer to any bare surfaces.
• Remove any red rust with a wire brush and spot prime with Dulux All Metal Primer.
Timber fascias including pre-primed timber:
• Test previously painted surfaces.
• Sand all dressed timber.
• All grey timber must be removed by sanding prior to painting.
• Remove dust before painting.
• Apply one coat of Dulux 1Step® Prep Primer Sealer Undercoat.
Unpainted galvanised iron, roofing, downpipes and guttering including Zincalume®:
• Wash with a solution of Dulux House Wash using a stiff bristle brush (not a wire brush).
• Rinse with water and allow to dry.
• Remove any red rust with a wire brush and spot prime with Dulux All Metal Primer.
Concrete tiles:
• Remove all dirt, chalk, lichen and moss using a high pressure water blaster. Wash with a bleach solution where necessary.
• Ensure that cement used in jointing is in a sound condition.
Brick, masonry, fibro and fibre cement board:
• Unpainted masonry surfaces should be cured for 28 days before painting. Ensure surface is sound and clear of any loose sand cement.
• Fill holes with a grouting cement.
• Wash down with water using a stiff brush to remove all loose material.
• To remove any efflorescence (white salts) wipe down with a 5% solution of acetic acid (white vinegar).
• Hose down and allow to dry.
• Wash with a bleach solution and/or demossing chemical to remove mould, or moss. Then hose down. Apply one coat of Dulux 1Step® Prep Primer Sealer Undercoat.
Steel and wrought iron:
• Remove all rust by scraping, sanding or wire brushing.
• Apply two coats of Dulux All Metal Primer.
Plastic spouting and downpipes: Sand all surfaces and dust off.
Galvanised iron must not be left to weather, particularly in salt or chemical areas. For best results, especially in coastal or geothermal areas, the application of one coat of Dulux All Metal Primer is recommended.
Glazed concrete tiles cannot be coated with a decorative paint system.
1. Stir contents thoroughly before and during use with a broad flat stirrer, using an upward lifting action.
2. Rinse brush or roller in water before starting and use while still slightly damp.
3. Apply three full even coats direct from the container.
4. Under hot or windy conditions or on very absorbent surfaces, up to 100ml Dulux Hot Weather Thinner may be added per litre to assist application.
5. Use a short nap roller.
6. Avoid excessive brushing or rolling back into paint which has been drying some minutes.
Suitable for application by all standard spray equipment. If necessary, thin with up to 60 ml/litre of water to aid atomisation.
Do not pour leftover paint down the drain.
Unwanted paint should be brushed out on newspaper and allowed to dry, and then disposed of via domestic waste collections.
