With 2010 marking the beginning of a new decade, Dulux looked to our past to predict the way forward.
History moves in cycles. From the conformity of the '50s to the opulent '90s. Each cycle was associated with fashion, music, events, technology and colours that epitomised each decade. We revisited significant moments from the past to interpret key influences for the future.
From social interaction to bio-fuel crops, technology was shaping our future constantly.
Were you a Twitter, blogger, Facebook tragic or iPhone addict? From social interaction to bio-fuel crops, technology was shaping our future constantly. With technology all invasive and with the dramatic advances almost daily, it was a wonder science and technology were a major influence on colour and design.
This palette, more than any other, reflected our emerging mood. It was positive, encouraging and celebrated people's success, rather than their failures.
This was a feel-good palette with uplifting colours perfectly reflecting this sentiment. We envisioned an optimistic future on the horizon and the 'essential home' colours displaying this with warm, bright and elevating colours and combinations
Luxury was being redefined as a mindset. It was about encompassing discretion, experience, responsibility and worth. Think about when things were made to last. It was not about spending less, it was about spending more wisely. For many years furniture had been bought for the 'now', whereas a trend was emerging for high-quality pieces, which in the end, became family heirlooms.
This palette delved into the emerging trend of customisation and independent design. Until most recently only the young or brave in the mainstream were determined to make their personal statement in design. Breaking away from the constraints of normality, companies were offering customised products to stay in touch with and satisfy their customer's unique needs. The desire for individualism, escapism and freedom combined to create a truly juxtaposed palette.
Dulux Colour Forecast 2024 reflects an inner desire for positivity and spaces that nurture within our homes with warm colours such as rich golds, olive greens and reddy browns.
