Blue is well known for its ability to create a restful and calming space. Adding softer calming shades of blue may help an anxious or stressed dog.
Softer restful shades of blue like Dulux Puhoi or Blue Pools can create a tranquil and calming atmosphere for your dog and may help reduce their anxiety. Fear-based problems such as separation distress (fear of separation), thunder-phobia and other phobias, fear of strangers or other dogs and general anxiety are common in dogs that didn’t receive extensive exposure and training in puppyhood or who suffered trauma later in life.
"Any dog experiencing fear or anxiety could benefit from the colour blue in their environment, especially when supported with desensitisation training techniques to calm the dog further."
Storm comes from a violent home where she suffered traumatic experiences. Both Storm and *Nicole, her human-Mum, loved each other dearly. So, when Storm entered Pet Refuge care, so they could escape violence together, Storm started showing signs of separation anxiety.
Often Storm will refuse to go back into her kennel after exercise or will continually bark to get staff's attention and won't settle until someone comes back to cuddle her. She struggles sometimes around other dogs and doesn’t know how to behave. She just wants to play with them and thinks they’re best friends but can come across as a bit rough.
The Pet Refuge team helped socialise Storm with both pets and people through a bespoke training plan. Now when Storm is reunited with her family, she’ll be ready for her new safe life, without the effects of anxiety.
