Whariwharangi hut is one of four Great Walk huts on the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, sited in a grassy clearing in regenerating native bush. Built around 1896, this historic hut was restored in 1980 and it is now used as a tramping hut.
Recently Whariwharangi Hut was treated to a well-deserved freshen up. All the exterior weatherboards were water blasted and oiled with Dryden wood oil; a specialty Dulux product.
The inside ceilings and walls were cleaned of many years of soot and grime then repainted using Dulux Wash&Wear® Semi Gloss in the shade Dulux Ōkārito.
Additionally, the windows were freshly painted with Dulux Aquanamel® in Dulux Dromedary and then the window surrounds, barges and various other items are painted with Dulux Aquanamel® in Dulux Red Beach.

Orange can radiate warmth and energy and is quite stimulating and thought provoking. Orange is available in many shades and tones. Burnt orange looks great in formal areas and the lighter orange shades of apricot or peach work beautifully in bedrooms and living spaces.
Now this family friendly hut on the popular Great Walk can be enjoyed by many today and is protected to provide shelter for the trampers of the future.
Dulux and the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai have been working together since 2013 to protect backcountry DOC huts, historic buildings and other facilities such as Whariwharangi Hut for future generations to enjoy.
